Descripción

Facial recessions at crown-restored teeth in the aesthetic area and peri-implant mucosal recessions represent an increasing complication and may negatively affect the esthetic outcomes and patient satisfaction.

The aim of this webinar paper is to provide a review on the potential causes for facial peri-implant mucosal recessions and provide the rationale for the treatment along with the possible treatment options.

The available data indicate that MCAT in conjunction with subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) represents a valuable option for treating single and multiple gingival recessions at crown-restored teeth in the maxillary aesthetic area thus avoiding the replacement of the prosthetic restorations. At present, there is very limited evidence supporting any specific treatment modality for covering peri-implant soft tissue recessions. The limited available data indicate that only shallow peri-implant mucosal recessions (e.g. up to 2-3 mm) may be successfuly treated by means of a coronally advanced flap (CAF) and subepithelial connective tissue graft (SGCT) or with GBR, while no data are available supporting the possibility of covering deep and large peri-implant mucosal recessions
