Dr Sandra Tai - Photo Biography

Dr. Sandra Khong Tai


Dr Sandra Khong Tai has been an Invisalign certified orthodontist since 2000 and is currently an Invisalign Diamond Plus Provider who has treated over 4,000 cases with the Invisalign system. She is Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at the University of British Columbia, and Adjunct Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at the University of the Pacific, San Francisco.

Dr Tai is the author of the best selling text “Clear Aligner Technique” Quintessence Publishing 2018 which is now available in 12 languages – English, French, Spanish, Portugese, German, Italian, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish and Polish. She has also authored Chapter 22 on Clear Aligner Treatment in Graber’s Orthodontics 7th Edition (Elsevier 2023), as well as a chapter on Deep Bite Treatment with Clear Aligners in the Moyer’s Craniofacial Growth Series at the University of Michigan. She is also on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Aligner Orthodontics, a research journal focusing on the field of clear aligners that is published quarterly. She is a reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Journal of Craniofacial Research and APOS Trends in Orthodontics.

Dr Tai has taught clear aligner technique at various universities internationally, and continues to maintain a busy international lecture schedule at conferences all over the world. She runs an on-line Orthodontic Mini-Residency in Clear Aligner Technique that offers systematic training in the field of clear aligners. She is currently involved in several research projects involving clear aligner innovations.

Dr. Tai was one of 6 members of the Clinical Review Committee for the Invisalign Gallery in 2014. Dr. Tai’s cases have been published in the North America Invisalign Gallery. She is a member of Align Tech Orthodontic Clinical Advisory Board for North America, Align Global Faculty and is currently involved in several clinical research projects and FDA clinical trials with clear aligners. Dr Tai conducts Invisalign Immersion Courses in her private practice.

She is a Fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists, Canada. She is also the founding member of the Orthodontic Ties Seminars Study Club, as well as the Vancouver Invisalign Study Club, as well as a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics

Let’s get Digital! Digital workflow for aligner treatment
Day 1: Thursday June 20, 2024. Morning Session 1

This lecture will present the digital workflow utilizing the iTero 5D scanner from the new patient consultation, to visualizing treatment outcomes with the Smile View and Invisalign Outcome Simulator (IOSim), using the NIRI feature for caries detection, as well as Progress Tracking with iTero, and Virtual care.

A solution for Class II Growing Patients: Invisalign with Mandibular Advancement
Day 1: Thursday June 20, 2024. Afternoon Session 2

Class II malocclusion remains one of the most common malocclusions in North American and Europe. This presentation will discuss treating Class II growing patients with Invisalign with Mandibular Advancement.  Indications for treatment, setting up different phases of treatment in the digital software plan and different treatment approaches for both high angle and low angle cases will also be presented with some advanced tips for clinical success with the new enhanced precision wings.

Clinically Efficient Clear Aligner Treatments: Troubleshooting, Additional Aligners and Finishing
Day 2: Friday June 21, 2024. Morning Session 1

This lecture will present how to handle the most common complications in aligner treatment such as managing severe rotations, severe root inclinations, molar movements, and what to do when teeth do not track. Tips for maximizing efficiencies in treatment and finishing with less additional aligners will be presented as well as finishing tips and retention protocols.

Complex cases with Aligners: Premolar Extractions and Impacted Canines
Day 2: Friday June 21, 2024. Afternoon Session 1

This presentation will focus on two common complex type cases that many clinicians still prefer to treat with fixed appliances. Premolar extractions are commonly required in teen treatment. This presentation will discuss the G6 extraction protocol and show various types of extraction patterns.  It will include setting up the ClinCheck plan specifically for extraction cases, as well as aligner wear protocol for extraction cases. Impacted canines are often seen in teen patients as well with the ideal treatment time coinciding with the eruption time of the permanent canine.  Several keys for successful treatment of impacted canines will be presented including biomechanics for aligning the impacted tooth with aligners.

Complex Cases with Aligners: Integrating TADs with Aligners and Orthognathic Surgery. Including Surgery First Approach
Day 2: Friday June 21, 2024. Afternoon Session 2

Temporary Anchorage Devices are commonly used in orthodontics for anchorage purposes. TADs may also be combined with aligner treatment.  This presentation will present several clinical scenarios for integrating TADs with aligner treatment. Finally orthognathic surgery, including how to assess a case for surgery first approach will be reviewed.

Dr. Donna Galante


Dr. Donna Galante is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine where she received both her dental degree and her specialty certification in Orthodontics. For eight years, Dr. Galante was a clinical instructor at the University of Pennsylvania Department of Orthodontics where she was twice voted “Instructor of the Year”.

She is currently a guest lecturer at Harvard University School of Dentistry where she is teaching orthodontic residents how to effectively and predictably treat patients with Invisalign®. A faculty member for Invisalign® since 2011, she has lectured both nationally and internationally to 10,000 doctors and their teams, sharing her expertise with the Invisalign® orthodontic appliances.

Dr. Galante is a board-certified orthodontist in private practice for over 30 years. She is also an Ivy League guest lecturer and published author, helping educate other orthodontists about Invisalign® techniques and applications.

Why Teen Treatment? The best kept secret in aligner orthodontics!
Day 1: Thursday June 20, 2024. Morning Session 2

The case for teen treatment, who represent the majority of orthodontic patients will be made. Different modalities for Class II correction will be discussed including elastic Jump and maxillary molar sequential distalization. Unique protocols for teens such as hours of recommended wear, and dynamic aligner change will be presented. These principles will also be applied to adult treatment protocols in terms of discussing differences between Teen and Adult treatment and assessing degree of complexity of cases with differences in ClinCheck design and aligner changes.

Little Smiles Matter! Invisalign First
Day 1: Thursday June 20, 2024. Afternoon Session 1

Early interceptive treatment with Invisalign First will be presented. Treatment objectives for a Phase 1 treatment will be defined. This will be illustrated by clinical cases that include mixed dentition treatment for crowding, deep bite, open bite, asymmetry, Class II and Class III cases.

The Vertical Challenge: Deep Bites and Open Bites
Day 2: Friday June 21, 2024. Morning Session 2

This presentation will discuss key elements necessary for success for deep bite and open bite malocclusions.  These include designing the digital software plan with the G3, G5 and G8 innovations, taking into consideration biomechanics and anchorage as well as a SmartForce and SmartStage checklist for deep bite and open bite treatment.
