Retro-molar Vertical Ridge Augmentation: The Khoury Approach in the Digital Era
Shanghai, China
December 18 & 19, 2026
Dr. Luca De Stavola
Theoretical and hands-on course led by Dr. Luca De Stavola, including a guided hands-on session using YDF surgical guides on resin models.
OVERVIEW
Reconstructing severely atrophic ridges remains one of the greatest challenges in modern surgical implantology. While traditional techniques offer variable outcomes, the use of autogenous bone blocks via the laminae technique has proven to be the gold standard in terms of biological predictability and long-term stability. In this exclusive two-day program in Shanghai, Dr. Luca De Stavola—a world-renowned authority on the development and digitization of this technique—will present an integrated vision that connects the deep biology of the bone defect with millimeter-precision surgical execution.
This course marks the evolution toward “The Khoury Approach in the Digital Era”. Participants will learn to transition from intuitive intraoperative decision-making to computer-guided planning workflows. Through a comprehensive analysis of both the three-dimensional defect and the donor site in the mandibular retro-molar region, Dr. De Stavola will demonstrate how digital technology (including the design of YDF surgical guides) enables ultra-precise, minimally invasive bone harvesting with significantly reduced surgical times.
The educational experience for Friday, December 18, and Saturday, December 19, 2026, has been designed as a total immersion format: the first day is dedicated to clinical decision-making foundations, biological defect classification, and essential soft tissue management protocols (flap design, elongation, and wound closure), followed by a second day focused on the step-by-step digital protocol for bone harvesting and laminae fixation. The program culminates in an intensive hands-on session, where clinicians will directly apply the protocols learned using YDF surgical guides on specialized resin models.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
What You Will Learn:
Clinical decision criteria in bone augmentation: Classify bone defects biologically and understand how the surgeon’s initial choices influence the final bone regeneration outcome.
Strategic technique selection: Master the clinical decision tree to determine exactly why and when to perform Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR), when to choose the Khoury approach, and in which clinical scenarios to apply the relining approach.
Advanced soft tissue management: Execute highly predictable clinical protocols for flap design and elongation, tension-free wound closure, and soft tissue grafting strategies in atrophic ridges.
Digital analysis and virtual planning: Conduct three-dimensional defect and mandibular donor site analysis in relation to the optimal Khoury approach in the digital era.
Guided bone harvesting and laminae fixation: Master the surgical management of the retro-molar bone block and the step-by-step protocol for computer-guided bone laminae fixation.
Hands-on clinical practice: Physically execute PC-guided bone harvesting and retro-molar vertical ridge augmentation via the Khoury approach, working directly with YDF surgical guides on anatomical resin models.
