We will discuss them below.

Differences between CBCT and dental CAT

The first, and probably most important, is the dose of radiation received in one test and in another. With CBCT it is much lower than with CT. This is not a trivial issue, since radiation can severely affect the patient’s health.

Related to the previous point, the time of exposure to X-rays is also influenced, being less than one or two minutes, depending on the machine. In fact, it is the relationship between image quality and exposure time and dose that makes CBCT the best option.

Finally, both tests emit X-rays. However, those of the CBCT are cone-shaped and those of the CT are spiral-shaped.

Uses of CBCT

A CBCT scanner is often used to treat orthodontic problems, but it is also very useful in complex situations such as:

Determination of bone structure and tooth orientation

Localization of the origin of a pain.

Planning for surgery.

Diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).

Precise location of dental implants.

Evaluation of the jaws, sinuses, nerve channels and nasal cavity.

Detection, measurement and treatment of tumors of the jaw
Cephalometric analysis.

Reconstructive surgery.

Visit the official website of Health Technology here

CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography, which translated into Spanish would be understood as Cone Beam Computed Tomography.
